Tracking The "Influential Evangelicals" Meme
Everybody's blogged about Time magazine's "Top 25 Most Influential Evangelicals" cover story already—including the subsequent Larry King Live interviews with five from the list—so here's just my attempt at a summary of (some of) what's already been said:
- Desert Pastor has the best screen shot of Larry King and Brian McLaren (somebody tell Brian to relax!)
- Aaron Flores actually has video clips
- Rick Bennett says T.D. Jakes deserves an A+
- Tony Jones drops some def theories on American evangelicalism
- Andrew Jones walked by the Larry King Live studio once
- Terry White gives us the straight dope
- Sivin Kit quotes the caller
- PenguinBoy picks Richard John Neuhaus as his fave
- Jay Voorhees says Tim LaHaye was acting like an idiot
- David Wetzell says the Lahayes are heretics
- Mike King agrees—definitely heretical
- Josh Street says the Lahayes are just plain scary
- Andrew Careaga vows to make the list next year

Reading the overview of the Larry King interviews makes me see why I have resonance with the emergent church: Brian and Jakes are so politically unmotivated. Rather than a grasping for power in the political arena they are concerned about both living a life guided by the Sermon on the mount and being part of a people who are caring for the poor and broken...
Its an agenda that often will not be recognized by the cynical... listening but not able to hear, watching but not able to see. Thanks for posting this, Steve.
