From WillzHead to Our Brains
Will Samson has posted some excellent bullet points from a weekend he recently spent with researcher George Barna and futurist/author Leonard Sweet. The info from Barna that struck me the most was this: “Currently only 65% of self-professed Christian in America experience their faith through the local church, and that is diminishing every year. [Barna] predicts that by 2025 only about one-third of Americans will experience their faith through what we would define today as a local church.”
So what impact does this have on our local faith community? It's a good question. Anyway, this seems to tie in closely with another Barna point about the growing “multitude of spiritual mini-movements” (e.g. house churches, prayer movements, market-place ministries, and cyber-churches). Finally, as a parent, Barna’s point about the importance of children’s ministry in the local church really resonated with me. I know how important it is to me and my family, and so that obviously is true for many others as well.
