Indie Allies Founder Visits Charlotte Meetup

[Doesn't that newsy headline just grab ya?! Check out this journalistic blogging ...]

The second gathering of the Charlotte area Indie Allies Meetup group was held last night at City Tavern, and we were joined by two esteemed guests -- Jeff Fitzgerald and Spencer Burke. Jeff is a multimedia producer from northern Virginia, and Spencer is the creator of TheOoze.com, author of Making Sense of Church, and the founder of Indie Allies. Both were in town for the Technologies for Worship "Inspiration" conference.

Needless to say, it was a great Meetup, and the conversation was highly stimulating. I'll just say that Spencer's open discussion of his theological deconstruction and reconstruction (what he calls "the heresy I think I believe") was pretty mind-blowing. Definitely lots to think about.

And that's what I love about emerging churches (like Warehouse 242 and The Well) that are engaging culture in a new way -- these kinds of theological discussions are not heresy. Instead, they are "safe," and that's what people need in order to sort things out. That's what I need to continue seeking and digging deeper in my own faith.

Thanks to all the Charlotte Indie Allies for showing up once again, and to Jeff and Spencer for making this the best Indie Allies Meetup ever! (Granted, it was just the second one, but it'll be difficult to top, I'm sure).
